A Development Day offers intensive on-going support, develops teaching skills and improves best practise. The day maintains the teaching of Read Write Inc. at a consistently high level. This is a day when school is open, not a school closure day. The trainer will consult with you beforehand and can tailor the day to suit your school’s needs.

In- school training
Many of our most successful Read Write Inc schools, including several mentioned in the Reading by Six report, have found Development Days invaluable in helping to ensure staff continually improve and update their skills in teaching Read Write Inc.
An experienced trainer will spend the day in your school working alongside your Read Write Inc. manager. The day will be tailored to suit the needs of your school. The trainer can:
- Model RWI Phonics and Fresh Start lessons
- Explain the latest assessment and tracking systems
- Check groupings
- Support foundation stage teachers in organising the teaching of RWI
- Advise on the management of Read Write Inc.
- demonstrate to staff how to tutor individual children who require more support to ensure every child in your school learns to read
- lead an afternoon writing session for support staff
- Lead an after school discussion on the key issues of the day
