Who will find this training useful?

This two-day training is perfect for schools wanting to adopt the Read Write Inc. Programme.

Whole school training

One of our experienced trainers will come to your school to lead a two-day training, and train all your teachers and support staff - from Foundation to Year 6. This helps to ensure that the whole school adopts the programme whole-heartedly and successfully. The trainer will give detailed guidance on using the Read Write Inc. Phonics resources (for Foundation to Year 4), and, where appropriate, the Read Write Inc. Fresh Start resources (for children in Years 5 and 6 working below NC Level 3, including EAL children).

Central training

These centrally organised training courses are arranged throughout the year at venues around the country. Schools may book individuals or groups of staff onto these training courses, and other interested support workers and carers are also welcome to book places. The training given at these courses is the same as that given in whole school trainings.

What is included in the training?

  • The reading and writing process: understanding the Simple View of Reading
  • The complex English alphabetic code
  • Read Write Inc. principles for excellent teaching and learning
  • Developing language comprehension for reading and writing
  • Assessment and grouping
  • Teaching the phonic lessons: speed sounds, blending and segmenting
  • Teaching the ‘Storybook’ lessons: from decoding to comprehension
  • Teaching the ‘Get Writing!’ lessons: from encoding to composition
  • Effective implementation
  • Fresh Start training for staff with struggling pupils in Year 5 upwards is also covered in the above agenda where required.

Agenda for the Implementation Monitoring day


  • Joint monitoring of reading groups with the Read Write Inc. manager
  • Keeping groups at the same homogeneous reading level
  • Planning one-to-one tutoring for children who have concentration difficulties, dyslexia and specific learning needs
  • Tracking pupil progress
  • Leading a writing workshop
  • Providing feedback and next steps

What does it cost?

In-school Training

Two days of training plus a further implementation monitoring day

£2750 plus VAT for up to 45 staff

Two day training at a venue near you

£220-£250 + VAT per person

Please note that you must apply online in order to reserve your place on all courses.

Please note a minimum of 48 hours notice is required if cancelling a place on a training course. Otherwise we reserve the right to charge 50% of the cost of the place booked.
